We are writing in the name of our son Gabriel Alexandru, two years old, who have very serious medical problems.
At two years, Alexandru has the psychical and motor skills of a three month old baby. He can not sustain his head, cannot sit, cannot say “it hurts”, “mother” or “water”, cannot hold a toy; all he does is watching you with his big eyes, smile, laugh, and he loves to be touched and loved…
Soon after he was born, he was diagnosed with neurological disorders: cerebral palsy and epileptic encephalopathy.
We went to the best doctors in Romania (Bucharest and Tg. Mures) since he was six weeks old. At that time he had the first generalized convulsion, and this was the moment we found out about his disease. We tried all the anticonvulsant medicine, yet the seizures did not stop.
Our pain cannot be expressed in words, you can see it in our eyes, especially in Alexandru’s eyes…, he asks for help.
He has a single chance to live a normal life: with an OEG cell (Olfactory Ensheathing Glial) transplant that can be performed at the Beijing Xishan Institute for Neuroregeneration and Functional Recovery in China. (OEG cells are not stem cells.)
The total cost of Alexandru’s treatment is estimated to be $20,000, which includes hospitalization, all medical tests, surgery and rehabilitation treatments, but excludes the flight to Beijing. With our income is not possible to borrow this amount.
Hoping that we will be able to raise the money, we made an appointment for surgery on July 24, 2007. This appointment will be canceled if the necessary amount will not be raised.
